Six years later, I was back today outside the house where I lived for a year when I was studying in Brisbane, Australia. It has been a day with very weird feelings indeed. I walked into Sean, who still runs a bookstore on Boundary Street – he said: “Where did you go, mate?” Later this week, I will try to track down a few other old friends.
My memories of what my life in Australia was like have gradually faded – to walk through my old neighborhood today and see what has changed and be reminded of so much I thought I had forgotten was a really strange sensation. Happy, but weird. A lot of fond rediscoveries mixed with the strangest feeling of seeing something I thought I knew well with my new / current eyes.
I will be moving to Sydney on a two-month job assignment starting today. I expect to be back in Europe in November and hope to soon have new photos to update this site with.
